10 Best Ideas for Small Bathrooms to Show Your Remodeling Contractors

Over the past 30 years, new home bathrooms have almost doubled in size. However, there are still some houses with bathrooms averaging between 5 to 8 feet. Some people, as well as remodeling contractors, feel that a small space has little room (no pun intended) for a good decoration.

Do you have a small bathroom? Don’t worry. Any area of your home can be enjoyed if you employ the correct remodeling strategies by hiring professional remodeling contractors. A combination of the right lighting, colors, and fixtures will create the illusion of a roomy, comfortable bathroom. That’s why today, Epic Wood Work brings you 10 BIG IDEAS for remodeling small bathrooms.

We extracted the following images from the National Kitchen & Bath Association (NKBA) Design Competition archives. Use these great ideas as a reference for your next small bathroom remodeling project.

1. Rich, Asian-Inspired Design

This homeowner wanted an update from her 1980s bathroom by getting this contemporary Asian design for it. The powder room vanity was inspired by a Japanese kaidantansu (stepped chest). See how the room becomes more substantial in view with the use of vibrant and dark colors on the walls.

2. A day at the Beach

The way these homeowners opened up their space is fantastic. They got rid of two small closets and added ambient lighting to help create the illusion of a larger room. Then, after adding the tub and toilet, they put a shallow cabinet. Look the playful dry riverbed of stones in the space. We think it’s terrific!

3. His-and-Her Bath

We love the way these homeowners remodeled their bathroom. By using horizontal lines, a large-frameless mirror, and an entirely spaced task lighting, they created the illusion of a larger space. The marble-clad dividing wall creates a recessed storage opportunity. At the same time, the wall lends modesty to the toilet area.

4. Small and Simple

Ths is the perfect way to keep it simple and do it very well. What did this space look like before? It was merely a tiny area meant for guest use. Now it is a beautiful cherry and limestone space. Check how the curved-front vanity and its two deep drawers, maximize the space and make it usable.

5. Zen Escape

The size of this bathroom highlighted an off-center, aluminum-framed window; an eyesore. But that’s the old story. Now the area is covered with light thanks to the door-to ceiling Shoji screen. The 7-foot framed mirror hung horizontally, reflects the ladder towel rack while spanning the length of the room entirely.

6. Hacienda-Style Bath

When patterns are used selectively, they don’t overwhelm small spaces. This is what happened with this guest bathroom. The bath features a custom miniature sideboard topped with a precious red travertine counter. It also has a copper vessel sink. Look how the handmade tiles and rich shower draperies add charm to this bathroom.

7. Tone and Texture

The best you can do in a small area is to create attention-commanding focal points, like the one we see in this small bathroom. The powder room vanity is crafted with smooth veneer. Besides, it is topped with a cast bronze basin and patina counter. Look at how the recessed lighting around the large mirror illuminates all the area.

8. Modern Makeover

Another tiny space covered with vanity and glamour. These homeowners know how to create a bold focal point in their small bathroom.

The stainless steel backsplash adds a rugged accent. Besides, the upper walls of this ultrafeminine retreat are upholstered in padded silk. Chic!

9. Compact Commode

Speaking of creative and functional ideas, this teeny bath features a wall-hung toilet. Look how the tank remains hidden inside the stud wall. This provides 9 inches of extra space in the center of the bathroom. The clear glass shower doors eliminate visual barriers. Besides, the skylight fills the area with plenty of natural light.

10. Glass Grandeur

Simple and chic. We love how the curved glass countertop provides a sense of spaciousness in this bathroom. The hand-applied 1-inch Bizazza glass tiles mimic the swooping curves of the textures. Initially, this bathroom felt like a tunnel to the homeowners. Now, the high ceiling features a deep amethyst color wash to visually lower the height of the room. Smart idea!
